Scribe vs Tango vs Guidde
Last updated July 2026
For most people documenting web apps, Scribe is the best of the three: the fastest capture and cleanest guides. Pick Tango for enterprise in-app adoption and Guidde when the deliverable is a narrated AI video. All three paywall redaction and export, which is why we add a free fourth option, Dubble, below.
These three tools get lumped together because they all start the same way: you click through a process and software assembles the documentation. But they have grown into three different products. Scribe stayed focused on step-by-step guides, Tango moved upmarket into digital adoption, and Guidde bet the company on AI video. Knowing which problem each one now solves saves you from paying for the wrong shape of tool.
One naming note before the comparison: Scribe is the software formerly known as Scribehow (its domain moved from scribehow.com to scribe.com), so older reviews and Chrome Web Store listings use both names for the same product. Every price and limit below comes from each vendor’s live pricing and product pages as of July 2026. If you only need two of the three, jump to our Scribe vs Tango head-to-head, or browse every matchup on the comparison hub.

Scribe: the polished leader with paywalled basics
Scribe builds a formatted step-by-step guide from a browser recording in seconds, but exporting that guide as a file and redacting sensitive data both sit above the free plan.
The genuine strength: no tool in this trio matches Scribe’s capture-and-edit polish or its enterprise credentials. It auto-writes step titles and descriptions, its editor is the most refined, and it carries SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA and GDPR, the reason security-led teams keep choosing it. Its G2 score sits at 4.8.
The catch: Scribe’s free plan captures web apps only, with no PDF, HTML or Markdown export and no redaction. Both are things people assume are basics, and both require Pro (from $25/user/month annual, or a 5-seat Pro Team). Even embedded guides stay hosted on Scribe. We break the plans down in the Scribe pricing teardown.
Tango: the enterprise digital-adoption pivot
Tango captures guides like Scribe but has moved its value into in-app walkthroughs, so its most useful features now live behind unlisted Enterprise pricing.
The genuine strength: Tango is the only tool of the three that turns a guide into live, on-screen adoption. Guide Me overlays, Pins and Automations walk a user through the real interface rather than a static doc, a true DAP capability Scribe and Guidde don’t offer. Reviewers rate it highly (4.8 on both G2 and Capterra, across ~1,000 combined reviews).
The catch: that pivot upmarket makes Tango expensive for small teams. Entry Pro is ~$22/user/month annual, every editor is a billable seat, and the headline features (Guide Me, automatic PII blurring, analytics, translation) are all Enterprise-gated with no public price. The free plan is the tightest here (~5 shared workflows). See more in our Tango alternatives writeup.
Guidde: AI-video-first documentation
Guidde turns a recording into a narrated AI video as its primary output, with the written step guide as a secondary export, the inverse of how Scribe works.
The genuine strength: if your team would rather watch than read, Guidde is the clear pick. Magic Capture produces a polished video with AI voiceover in 100+ voices and 40+ languages, and it can still export a PDF or step guide alongside. That makes it the best fit for customer-facing or localised walkthroughs.
The catch: the AI voiceover can sound robotic (a recurring reviewer note), the free plan caps at 25 watermarked videos, and the features that make it genuinely useful (AI text-to-voice, desktop capture, analytics) sit behind Business ($39/user/month annual). Per-creator pricing means a 10-seat team lands near $390/month. Compare it further in our Guidde alternatives comparison.
Pricing compared
Free-plan limits and paid tiers for all three, with Dubble alongside. All three price per creator/seat, so team cost scales with everyone who records or edits.
| Tool | Free plan | Entry paid plan | All paid tiers | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scribe | Unlimited guides for web apps only; no desktop capture, no PDF/HTML/Markdown export, no redaction, and no custom branding | Pro Team — $13/mo |
| Pro Team requires a 5-seat minimum (effectively $65/mo entry when billed annually). PDF export and redaction — often expected as basics — are paywalled above the free plan. |
| Tango | Free plan capped at a small number of shared workflows (Tango's pricing page states 5 shared workflows; some sources report 15–25) and up to 10 users; browser capture, link/embed sharing, basic editing. PDF/Markdown export and desktop capture require Pro. | Pro (Team, 3+ users) — $15/mo |
| Per-seat model: every person who creates or edits workflows needs a paid seat, so costs scale fast for teams. The most valuable features (in-app Guide Me walkthroughs, automatic PII blurring, analytics, translation) are gated to Enterprise, which has no public pricing. Pro entry price is comparatively high for small teams. Pricing updated effective March 2026. |
| Guidde | Up to 25 how-to videos; web (browser) capture only; recorded/basic voiceover, shareable links and stock music; videos carry a Guidde watermark. | Free — $0/mo |
| Priced per creator (anyone who records, edits, or publishes counts as a billable seat), so team cost scales linearly — a 10-person team on Business is ~$390-$550/mo. Annual billing is ~34% cheaper than monthly. No free trial on Pro; Business includes a 7-day trial. Analytics, AI text-to-voice, and desktop capture are gated behind Business+. Exact live numbers could not be confirmed directly (guidde.com blocked to fetcher); prices reconciled from multiple 2026 third-party sources. |
| Dubble | Unlimited guides, image editing and redaction, blur sensitive content before recording, embed and share anywhere, unlimited private viewers. No video/audio capture, collaborators, or watermark removal. | Free — $0/mo |
| Annual billing saves ~20% (Pro effective $18/mo vs $24/mo monthly). Pro includes 3 creator seats; additional creators are +$8/mo (or +$6/mo billed annually). 14-day free Pro trial. Enterprise is custom-priced (contact sales). |
What reviewers say
Public ratings across G2, Capterra and the Chrome Web Store. Tango carries the largest review base of the three; all three score around 4.8.
Scribe vs Tango vs Guidde, dimension by dimension
1. Capture method
Scribe, Tango and Guidde all capture through a browser extension, and all three add desktop capture on paid plans.
On web apps the three are near-identical: install the extension, click through, get a guide. Scribe and Tango cover Chrome, Edge, Mac and Windows; Guidde covers Chrome, Edge and Mac. Guidde and Tango both put desktop capture behind higher tiers (Guidde’s on Business), while Scribe includes desktop capture from Pro Personal.
2. Output formats
Guidde outputs a narrated video first; Scribe outputs step guides and screenshots only, and Tango sits in between with steps, screenshots, PDF and GIF.
This is the sharpest split in the comparison. Scribe has no native video at all. Tango produces polished text guides with GIFs but no full video. Guidde is the only one that makes video the deliverable. If you need both a readable guide and a watchable video from one capture, none of the three does it cleanly on a free plan. That is where the fourth option comes in.
3. Editing & redaction
All three paywall redaction: Scribe locks it to Pro/Enterprise, Tango’s automatic PII blurring is Enterprise-only, and Guidde puts blur behind Pro.
Every tool here has a capable step editor, but hiding sensitive data, the thing that decides whether you can publish a real guide, costs extra in all three. That’s a meaningful gap for anyone documenting internal systems, dashboards or customer data without an enterprise budget.
4. Export & embed
File export is paid in all three: Scribe’s PDF/HTML/Markdown is Pro-only, Tango gates PDF/Markdown to Pro, and Guidde exports MP4/GIF/PPT/PDF on Pro.
All three integrate with knowledge bases like Notion and Confluence, but the portable file, the version you actually own, sits behind a paywall. Scribe additionally keeps embedded guides hosted on its own servers, which is the walled-garden concern that drives a lot of switching.
5. Pricing & free plan
Annual entry pricing runs $25/user/month (Scribe Pro Personal), ~$22/user/month (Tango Pro) and $19/user/month (Guidde Pro), all per-creator.
Scribe’s Pro Team is cheaper per seat ($13 annual) but enforces a 5-seat minimum. Guidde’s cheaper headline hides a jump to Business ($39) for its best features. Tango’s real value is Enterprise-only and unpriced. Every free plan here behaves like a trial rather than a lasting tier.
6. AI features
Guidde leads on AI media with 100+ voices across 40+ languages; Scribe uses AI for step titles and Enterprise redaction; Tango’s AI is lighter and its translation is Enterprise-gated.
If AI-generated narration and localisation matter, Guidde is well ahead. Scribe’s AI is focused on writing clean step text and, on Enterprise, automatic PII/PHI redaction. Tango leans on structure and adoption rather than generative media.
7. Team & enterprise features
Scribe, Tango and Guidde all charge per creator/editor seat and reserve SSO/SCIM for Enterprise; Scribe alone publishes HIPAA and ISO 27001.
For governance-heavy buyers, Scribe’s SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and HIPAA make it the safest. Tango adds workspace analytics and advanced permissions on Enterprise; Guidde adds SCORM export and custom AI avatars. In all three, per-seat pricing means costs climb with team size. How to choose between the three
Choose Scribe if you mainly document web apps, want the most polished capture-and-edit experience, and need deep compliance (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA) for a security-led team.
Choose Tango if static docs aren’t enough and you want in-app Guide Me walkthroughs that coach users inside the software, and you have the budget for Enterprise, where that value lives.
Choose Guidde if your deliverable is a narrated how-to video, especially localised across languages, and you’re comfortable with AI voiceover and per-creator pricing.
The fourth option: Dubble
Dubble resolves the three-way tradeoff by giving you Scribe-style capture, Guidde-style video, and free redaction and export from a single recording.
The recurring theme across Scribe, Tango and Guidde is that the basics (exporting a file, blurring sensitive data, getting both a guide and a video) cost extra. Dubble is built the other way around. Its free plan includes unlimited guides, image editing and redaction, blur-before-recording, and embedding and sharing anywhere, for $0. One capture produces a written guide, screenshots and a video, and Magic Copy pastes it as markdown or HTML straight into Notion, Confluence or Google Docs. You own the portable document, no walled garden.
It won’t replace Tango’s in-app Guide Me overlays, and as an indie, bootstrapped tool it has a smaller review footprint and lighter published compliance than Scribe. But for the overlap all three tools compete over (capture a process, get a clean guide and a video, keep it portable), Dubble covers it without the paywalls. Dubble Pro adds video and audio recording, collaborators and watermark removal at $18/month annual, with three creators included. See the head-to-head Dubble vs Scribe and Dubble vs Tango breakdowns.
The verdict
Scribe, Tango and Guidde are each the best at one thing (polished guides, in-app adoption, and AI video respectively), but each makes you pay for the basics the other two include, and none gives you guide-plus-video with free redaction. If your need maps cleanly to one of the three, pick it. If you want the overlap without the paywalls, Dubble is the free fourth option: one recording, three formats, paste anywhere.
